Hands Around Our World {Frugal Crafts}

by Jess on April 22, 2013

Hands-Around-The-WorldLast week I showed you how to make a 2-D earth to celebrate Earth Day.  We took it one step further this week when we created a 3-D earth!  Inspired by the events this past week in Boston, I really wanted to feel more connected with friends and family.  When we had a playdate the other day, this was the perfect craft to share with friends.  Unite with this “Hands Around Our World” fun Earth Day craft!

Hands-Around-The-World2Materials Needed:

  1. One blue balloon, green would work as well!
  2. Green or blue fingerpaint
  3. String

Directions:

  1. Prepare your area by spreading newspaper out on your work surface
  2. Blow up your balloon to desired shape/size and knot
  3. Dip little one’s hands in fingerpaint and have them put their handprint on their “Earth”
  4. If you are using a green balloon, use your blue fingerpaint to make the oceans and if you are using a blue balloon, use your green fingerpaint to reflect land
  5. Have children take turns putting their handprints on the balloon until they make their way around the world.  (Keep in mind this symbolizes the Earth it doesn’t have to reflect actual continents – unless you want it to!)
  6. Let dry for 2-4 hours
  7. Attach a string to the top and hang as an Earth Day centerpiece

This was a fun and easy craft.  My home was filled with giggles when we did this craft!  Such a sweet way to unite friends with one center craft!
