How To Lose 100 lbs: Drink Water

glass-of-drinking-waterWater. Something so simple yet so hard for me to always drink the “required” amounts. Sure I will drink a glass here and there but I am not always getting my full eight glasses of pure water in each day and for that I know part of my weight is associated with water retention. Therefore my topic for today’s post in My Journey to Lose 100lbs is I need to drink more water.

I have always been a heavy water drinker especially in school and when I was working outside of the home. I would carry a huge water bottle with me everywhere I went and would drink until it was empty. In fact when I was pregnant with my second child I drank so much water that I thought I might have drank TOO much and had serious salt cravings afterwards.

So here I am working from home within reach of a faucet with all the water I can have and yet I find myself not going toward it as I should. In order to make myself first grab water (versus milk or some other drink) I have started to carry around my trusty refillable water bottle so I can get into the habit of drinking water before anything else.

And by carrying my bottle around I am able to curb some of the cravings I’ve been having since I started on Monday. It’s so hard to get used to less calories in order to lose 1-2 pounds a week that I find I am hungry…a lot. and to help me with not heading to the pantry to break my meal planning I am drinking water instead. This helps with the urgent hunger and lets me prepare a better, more healthier snack then the bag of animal crackers I could completely demolish in 5 minutes.

So water is definitely important to my journey to lose weight and honestly is just a good thing for everyone to have more each day. If you are someone that does not drink a lot of water now…try baby steps. Add one 8oz glass a day for 3 days. Then increase that to two 8oz glasses for three days….and so on and so on until you reach the 8 glasses per day that is recommended. You can also try swapping out your regular drink of choice with water…as an easy way to add that extra glass each day…instead of drinking extra on top of your regular drink consumption. It really is just little steps at a time until you look back and realize that you are where you wanted to be.

There are many things I am working on to reach a happier, healthier me and by taking these small steps the process doesn’t seem so out of reach especially for someone like me with a long road ahead of me with a large amount to lose. If you have lost weight or you are beginning the journey like me, please comment here or on Facebook as I would love to know how you are managing this road with me.

Be sure to read the rest of the My Journey to Lose 100 lbs series as I will be adding at least two each week for the next year.

I have a really hard time drinking water. I know it’s the best thing to drink but it just doesn’t have the taste I crave which is pop. I have a very strong addiction to pop of any kind. I always have so I’ve decided to try to drink 1 less pop every day until I’m only drinking water or tea or something else besides pop. I’ve done it before for a few months but went back to it in a moment of weakness. It really is a hard addiction to break. Good Luck!
