How To Lose 100 lbs: Track Your Food (Before You Eat It Write It)

This last week I have noticed things starting to slip on my weigh loss journey. I know I’m not eating as much as I used to but I haven’t been measuring (Thursday’s topic) and I certainly have not been tracking my fo0d…so far as I know I could be eating way over my calorie daily goal. Therefore my topic for today’s post in My Journey to Lose 100 lbs is about writing down EVERYTHING I eat to make myself accountable.

When I started this journey I asked a few friends what they recommended for tracking their food. Since I am used to Weight Watchers I wanted something that would let me look up items and recipes in a database so I didn’t have to think about the calories, fat, etc. If there is one thing I dread it’s THINKING about my food. Since I plan the girls’ meals and pack lunches I just didn’t want one more thing for me to have to think about. So I looked for a system that would let me chose meal plans…and that’s when I found SparkPeople. With an online community and a mobile app for tracking my food while I’m on the move it really fit me and is similar to what I was used with Weight Watchers. And the best part? It’s FREE! That’s one of the reason I didn’t rejoin Weight Watchers this time around.

So here is this great tool that is really simple to use and has a great community and options to help me on my journey but it really comes down to one thing. Me. I NEED to track my food. There is just no other way. I have tried without tracking and I know what happens. This week is the perfect example. I lost 1/2 pound compared to my 2.5 pounds the week before. The only thing that was different…I tracked my food last week constantly before I ate it. So there are no excuses. I MUST track my food. I WILL track my food. And next week’s weigh-in will be a better result.

And if you are thinking of starting this journey with me I recommend you start a journal either in a notebook or online of what you are eating before you start the weight loss process. I personally think it was a great shock to me to see how much I was eating…and none of it was healthy for me. Tracking your food is a great way to be honest with yourself and keep you on track to your goal.

So Before You Eat It, Write It!

Weight Loss To Date: 3lbs

There are many things I am working on to reach a happier, healthier me and by taking these small steps the process doesn’t seem so out of reach especially for someone like me with a long road ahead of me with a large amount to lose. If you have lost weight or you are beginning the journey like me, please comment here or on Facebook as I would love to know how you are managing this road with me.

Be sure to read the rest of the My Journey to Lose 100 lbs series as I will be adding at least two each week for the next year.
