Sunflower Vases {Frugal Crafts}

by Jess on May 7, 2013

Sunflower-Vases-ProjectAs a Mom, I have a pretty good idea of what I would like for Mother’s Day.  These simple and pretty Sunflower Vases remind me of the vintage collectible sour cream jars that I saw featured in Martha Stewart last year.  These are very easy and affordable!  My daughters had a blast making making these and even tucked them away to save for me on Sunday, May 12th.  It’s right around the corner!  So set your kids up for a fun, easy and frugal craft!

Sunflower-Vases-ProjectMaterials Needed

  • Glass jar (mason jars work well but we used recycled pickle and jam jars that worked just as well)
  • Acrylic paint (we used brown and yellow)
  • Pencil

Directions:

  1. Prepare your surface by laying down newspaper to protect your area
  2. On a clean, dry jar start by simply dabbing your pencil’s eraser in the yellow paint
  3. Press gently and evenly to get the circle imprint on your glass jar
  4. Repeat in a circle until you’ve achieved your sunflower’s petals
  5. Continue to make flowers until your jar is full
  6. Allow to dry for one hour to avoid smudging
  7. Clean your pencil’s eraser with a wet cloth and dry
  8. Carefully apply one dot of brown and wiggle the eraser a bit to fill in the flower’s center
  9. Repeat on the remaining flowers until your desired sunflower look is achieved
  10. Allow to dry 2-4 hours
  11. Present to Mom or yourself on Mother’s Day with fresh flowers!
