A few weeks ago I told you I would be trying to post something each day as a way to be funny and entertaining and a way to write more then deals. Well, I still want to write more then deals however I seem to find myself not as funny as I thought as my mind proceeded to go blank LOL. That being said I will continue to write these Morning Muse articles with whatever comes to my mind and hope that you enjoy the break from deals and maybe share with me your stories as well.
Now some of you may be asking why is today’s title about poop and to be quite honest…because it’s a big deal in our household. If you go back to when my mother was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer all of a sudden we started taking about that four-letter word that was so taboo. And as she went through treatment and eventually lost her battle with the disease it has become my “staging box” where I will talk to complete strangers about how important it is to know your body and know that there are symptoms to be alert to and get checked. If fact it would be another 4 years before I would lose another great person in my life to this disease, a childhood friend, and so I still continue to talk about that special little word.
However, today’s post is not about colon cancer (that will come in March) but about the struggle of trying to get my six year old to go poop in the toilet. She is one of the lucky people to be plagued by constipation and after 4 years of struggling with potty training we have now come to realize that she will need to be on Miralax for a long time.
We have tried the diet changes…switching different milks…almond, rice and soy. We have cut out dairy completely and had her eat only fiber rich foods and even though it gave her some relief it was never more then a day or two. So now we give her a cap full each day and constantly have her try to go potty.
This constant struggle has lead to many tense moments as my daughter is very head strong and independent (some would say like her Momma) and finally after realizing that we can’t control this issue we can only aid her in making it easier. So she will continue to eat fiber rich foods, limit dairy to 3 a day and eat lots of the P’ foods (Pears, Plums, Prunes and Peaches) which help digestion and constipation and also take her special medicine in a cup of 1/2 chocolate soy milk and 1/2 regular milk every single day…until she stops fighting the potty.
So my question to you is…do you have a child like this and what are some of the ways you have handled it?
